Different Types of Battery For Forklift

A regular flat plate battery is available in most forklifts. One would be curious to know if a plate battery or a waterless battery can cater to your needs better.

There are two-fold functions of a forklift battery:

  • To provide the source of power for the forklift.

  • The second function and the least known function is to avail mass as a counterweight and enhances the forklift’s lifting capacity.

A typical forklift battery comprises of the following:

  • Battery Case- The battery case accommodates the battery’s individual cells. The number of cells in the case can range up to 36, which depends upon the voltage, which may be in the range of 12-48 volts
  • Battery Cells- These are essentially small and individual batteries made up of closely packed lead plates filled with sulphuric acid.
  • Battery Bars- These are large lead bars, linked to each cell and thus creating a complete circuit.
  • Battery Cable: the wire that to the charger when charging the battery

 Kinds of forklift batteries:

  • Flat Plate - These are the regular batteries for almost all of the forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Tubular Plate – Such batteries offer a stretched time of operation and higher voltages than flat plates. However, these batteries are not for longer use (in terms of years) as compared to a regular battery.
  • Higher amp-hour – these batteries are more reliable than the tubular plate batteries and are considered as one of the best picks.
  • Waterless – Such batteries are a great choice for such customers who wish to cut down on labor costs. They need to be filled in with water, very rarely.
  • Maintenance Free – these kinds of batteries need not be watered regularly and are the best options for pharmacies, food handling as there are absolutely no chances of gassing and spill danger. On the other hand, these batteries have shorter warranty periods.

As far as the selling price of the forklift battery is concerned, they are priced in the range of $2000 to $6000. So make sure you buy the right battery for forklift.
